What is the latest development in cosmetic dentistry that you are practicing?
Dr. John Vitale: I think the latest development in cosmetic dentistry that dentists are practicing and also myself are using the combination of the tools that we’ve presently had. For instance, using align technology, which is Invisalign, to move teeth in conjunction with placing implants and also with placing ultra-thin veneers and closing black triangles in people’s mouths with the newest system called Bioclear technology from 3M. We have a wealth of instruments at our disposal to enhance one’s smile today.
Why are porcelain veneers still a popular choice for people trying to improve their smile?
Dr. John Vitale: Well, porcelain veneers can achieve a number of goals for people. It can close spaces between teeth, change the color of the teeth, change the contours of the teeth, lengthen the teeth. Whatever cosmetic effect you’re trying to achieve, these porcelain veneers help us to do that.
What is the most effective form of teeth bleaching or whitening that you recommend?
Dr. John Vitale: Well, there are a number of different products on the market for people to use at home, but the most effective one is the in-house bleaching. We happen to use Zoom in our office. That’s one form of in-house bleaching, and the other form that we use in the office is Colgate. The in-house bleaching takes longer. It’s usually an hour and a half one seating as opposed to putting gels in a tray and taking them home and putting them in your mouth every day for X number of days. I think you get more of a profound effect with that one seating and they last a longer time.
What are the newest developments in adult orthodontic treatments?
Dr. John Vitale: Well, I think the newest adults are achieved with Invisalign or align technology. That system of moving teeth has moved so drastically to the future that many, many people, adults and teenagers are now using align technology. We happen to have a scanning unit in our office and we scan people’s teeth and we’re able to show them what they look like now and what they’re going to look like after the align technology is complete. It greatly enhances one’s vision of what you’re going to look at for a final product, and people are very, very excited about that.
What is the most popular form of cosmetic dentistry that your office practices?
Dr. John Vitale: I think the most popular form of cosmetic dentistry is the placement of veneers and the placement of ultra-thin veneers. They are two different types of veneers. The ultra-thin veneer generally does not require the reduction of any tooth structure. It’s mainly used to somewhat alter the appearance of your front teeth, but also the color. The other form of veneer requires that we prepare the teeth and that’s for a more severe color change and for more drastic differences in the way you look. Those two are basically what we practice in the office today.
